Taiwan People's Party targets 5-7 seats in Taichung City Council elections

The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) has set an ambitious target for the upcoming Taichung City Council elections, aiming to secure at least five seats and potentially six or seven. This goal was disclosed by TPP Central Committee member Jiang Heshun while campaigning for a local candidate.

During an event supporting Qiu Yushan, a TPP candidate for the Beitun district, Jiang Heshun outlined the party's electoral strategy. He specified that the TPP has nominated six candidates in Taichung. The target of "five seats guaranteed, hoping for six, aiming for seven" suggests a strategic approach to consolidating power within the council.

Jiang explained that the "seventh seat" would be achieved by supporting independent councilors who are allied with the TPP. This includes backing incumbent independent councilors like Wu Peiyun in the Nantun district and Chen Tingxiu in the Qingshui-Wuchi-Shalu district, even while the TPP fields its own candidate, Chen Yongxiang, in the latter constituency. This strategy aims to maximize the TPP's influence and voting bloc within the Taichung City Council.

The party's stated goal reflects a broader effort to expand its political footprint beyond its current strongholds. By strategically supporting allied independents, the TPP seeks to increase its representation and leverage in local governance, demonstrating a calculated approach to electoral growth.
