Taiwan physician evades media amid marital crisis, patients defend his practice

Amidst a continuing marital crisis involving former presidential daughter-in-law Chen Hsing-yu, her husband, physician Chao Chien-ming, has been conspicuously avoiding media contact.

Reporters have been staking out Chao's clinic, but on August 15th, he was observed leaving the premises through an underground parking garage. Clinic staff reportedly checked the surroundings and made calls, possibly to coordinate his departure and evade the waiting press. Residents nearby described the maneuver as a game of "hide-and-seek."

Chao's clinic held both morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday, and he ordered takeout during the midday break. After the afternoon clinic ended around 6 p.m., staff were seen looking out and making calls before a vehicle departed from the underground parking lot. The departure was notably discreet, with staff later turning off the lights and leaving.

Some local residents and patients have spoken out in support of Chao's medical practice. One patient shared a positive experience with a treatment for leg discomfort, noting its long-lasting effectiveness. Another patient mentioned successful post-operative care for their mother. These individuals emphasize that medical expertise is separate from marital issues and hope for privacy for the couple during this difficult time.
