Taiwan Power Company app offers points to offset electricity bills

Taiwanese households facing rising summer electricity bills can now leverage the Taiwan Power Company (TPC) app to potentially reduce their costs. The app features a "Power Points" program that rewards users for engaging in energy-saving activities.

By downloading the TPC app and completing real-name verification, users can access the "Power Points" section. Here, they can earn points through various energy-saving challenges. These points can then be redeemed to offset electricity bills, with a conversion rate of 100 points equaling 1 New Taiwan Dollar. Some users have reported saving hundreds of dollars through this initiative.

To participate, users must first bind their electricity account number to the app, ensuring the registered user name matches the account holder's name. The program offers three main ways to collect points: "Home Electricity Saving Prediction," which estimates future usage and awards more points closer to the actual meter reading date; "Energy Saving Day Challenge," a pre-registered event for smart meter users where they must reduce consumption during specific hours on a designated day; and "Energy Saving Points Collection," which rewards users whose current electricity consumption is lower than the same period in the previous year.

Renters can also participate if they have an independent electricity account under their own name. If the account is under the landlord's name, the landlord's consent or assistance is required for binding the account to the TPC app. This initiative aims to encourage more efficient energy consumption among the public.
