Taiwan’s August scooter rankings are out: SYM JET SL+ tops 6,000 sales to lead the market

The redesigned SYM JET SL+ 158 surged to the top of Taiwan’s August scooter market, selling 6,071 units, including 40 examples of the previous version. Its performance gave SYM the month’s best-selling model and helped the company maintain its position as Taiwan’s leading scooter brand.

The overall market recorded 60,101 sales, lower than in July. The decline came as the school season approached and the market was also affected by the traditional Ghost Month period. SYM sold 29,228 scooters, giving it a 48.63 percent market share.

KYMCO ranked second with 14,117 units and a 23.49 percent share, although its sales fell 18 percent from July. Several key models, including the K1, Laddi 115, GP125, RTS R 165 and G7, declined by varying degrees. The RTS R 165 and G7 each sold fewer than 800 units. A major redesign of the RTS R is expected and could improve its sales performance.

Yamaha placed third with 10,254 units and a 17.06 percent share. Its Jog and Cygnus 155 models remained in the monthly top 10, but Cygnus 155 sales fell after the JET SL+ redesign attracted strong demand. The article also points to Yamaha’s smaller model range as a long-standing weakness and says the market will watch whether the Japanese parent company’s direct operation brings more products to Taiwan.

SYM also took second and third place with the New迪爵 125 and 迪爵 125, which sold 5,393 and 5,104 units respectively. They joined the JET SL+ as the only three models to exceed 5,000 sales in August. The remaining top 10 models were KYMCO K1 150, Yamaha Jog 125, SYM CLBCU 125, SYM Woo 115, Yamaha Cygnus 155, SYM DRGBT 158 and SYM MMBCU 158.
