Taiwan's 'Blue-White Alliance' faces challenges as key figures meet in Taichung

The political landscape in Taiwan is buzzing with activity as key figures from the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) and the Kuomintang (KMT) are set to meet in Taichung, just three months before the year-end local elections. This gathering comes at a sensitive time, following the breakdown of the 'Blue-White Alliance' for the Zhubei mayoral race.

Former TPP Chairman Ko Wen-je and current TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang are scheduled to participate in a forum titled "Governance, Starting from the Local Level! Series Forum, Taichung Session: Co-creating Central Taiwan, Planning New Visions." They will be joined by KMT's Taichung mayoral candidate and Legislative Vice President Chiang Chi-chen. The event aims to discuss urban governance and future development for Central Taiwan.

The meeting in Taichung is drawing significant attention due to the recent collapse of the alliance in Zhubei. Tensions flared after TPP's Zhubei mayoral candidate, Chiu Chen-yuan, announced he would run regardless of the alliance, with Huang Kuo-chang accusing the KMT of failing to uphold its promises. The KMT's candidate for Hsinchu County Magistrate, Hsu Chen-wei, was also implicated in the dispute.

Adding another layer of interest, Huang Kuo-chang is also expected to appear with Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen at a separate event, a Beyblade carnival. These frequent interactions between the TPP and KMT in Taichung are fueling speculation about a potential "Taichung Blue-White Alliance," even as the national-level cooperation remains fractured.
