Taiwan's cheapest rents found in Yunlin, Chiayi counties, over 40% below national average

Taiwan's rental market shows a significant disparity between its northern and southern regions, with Yunlin and Chiayi counties boasting the nation's most affordable median rent at NT$5,000 per month. This figure is approximately 42% lower than the national median of NT$8,600.

In stark contrast, the greater Taipei metropolitan area and Taoyuan City report median rents above NT$10,000. New Taipei City leads with the highest median rent at around NT$13,000, making it 1.3 times more expensive than Yunlin and Chiayi. Taipei City follows closely with a median rent of approximately NT$12,500.

These statistics, derived from over 830,000 rental contracts submitted for rent subsidies in the first half of the year, indicate a national median rent of NT$8,600, a slight increase from the previous period. While Kaohsiung and Taichung saw minor rent fluctuations, the trend highlights the affordability gap across Taiwan.

He Shih-chang, CEO of the Sinyi Realty Think Tank, noted that rental subsidies do help reduce housing burdens for tenants, allowing them more disposable income for other living expenses. He emphasized the continued value of such support programs.
