Taiwan's Cyber Command Mobilizes Civilian Experts for Han Kuang Exercise

Taiwan's Cyber Warfare Command, usually shrouded in mystery, showcased its capabilities during the recent Han Kuang exercise. The unit, responsible for digital warfare, cyber offense and defense, and ensuring military communication resilience, mobilized over 100 civilian cybersecurity experts. These experts worked alongside military cyber warfare personnel in large-scale drills simulating attacks on critical infrastructure like energy, transportation, and telecommunications.

Commander Lieutenant General Mao Chien-chiu emphasized the importance of information protection mobilization for national cybersecurity resilience. He stated that the command will continue to expand and deepen civil-military cooperation, linking professional resources from various sectors to improve overall defense capabilities. This collaboration aims to ensure the secure and stable operation of critical information infrastructure and safeguard the nation's digital territory.

During the exercise, the command also practiced deploying mobile microwave systems to restore communication networks. This involved simulating scenarios where fixed communication nodes were damaged by enemy fire. Troops, wearing new digital camouflage uniforms, quickly set up equipment in concealed positions to minimize the risk of detection, ensuring the continuous transmission of vital intelligence and command orders.

Further drills simulated nighttime power outages affecting communication stations. Soldiers responded to failures in primary and backup power systems by rapidly establishing alternative power sources through mobile repairs and external generators. This demonstrated their ability to maintain communication operations and respond effectively even under challenging conditions, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of critical information and command directives.
