Taiwan's Environment Ministry shares disaster response experience ahead of flood season

As the flood season and typhoon threats loom, Taiwan's Ministry of Environment is proactively preparing by sharing crucial lessons learned from past natural disasters. A meeting of the Northern Region Command focused on analyzing practical aspects of disinfection in complex disaster scenarios. Key discussions centered on strengthening guidelines for managing disaster waste and ensuring the safety of temporary waste storage sites. The ministry aims to fully integrate environmental governance into the disaster prevention framework, ensuring readiness for future events. Officials stressed that with climate change intensifying the frequency and scale of natural disasters, the pressure on cleanup operations will grow, compounded by increasingly diverse waste streams.

The Environmental Protection Administration highlighted the necessity of temporary waste storage sites, particularly for rapidly clearing roads and removing debris from urban areas. Considerations for site selection and comprehensive monitoring were discussed.
