Taiwan's Geneva Representative Summoned Home Amid Bullying Allegations

Taiwan's representative to Geneva, Lee Kuan-te, is under investigation for serious allegations including bullying, submitting false expense reports, and drunk driving. The accusations surfaced after staff at the Geneva office filed formal, named complaints.

Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung confirmed the investigation, stating that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) received the complaints in late July and immediately launched a formal inquiry. A special task force, including legal and counseling experts, has been established to handle the case.

"Because the complaint involves a very wide range of issues, and not just bullying but other matters as well, MOFA sent an official telegram to Lee last week asking him to return to Taiwan next week to accept the investigation and provide an explanation," Lin said. He added that MOFA welcomes any evidence Lee might provide to support his case.

Lin emphasized that MOFA respects the investigation process and will not interfere. He also addressed concerns about why the alleged bully was not immediately removed from office, stating that MOFA aims to create a better working environment for diplomats and has established systematic complaint channels to address such issues promptly.
