Taiwan's Public Television Service (PTS) is confronting a severe financial crisis as the Legislative Yuan proposes to freeze or cut over NT$1 billion from its 2025 budget. This significant reduction, nearly half of the government's contribution, jeopardizes the broadcaster's operations and programming.

PTS announced that the primary condition for unfreezing the budget is the establishment of a new eighth board of directors. However, the broadcaster highlighted a critical impasse: the selection process for the new board is managed by legislative committee members and the Ministry of Culture, placing the "initiative outside of PTS's hands." With eight review committee members having already resigned, the formation of a new board appears distant, leaving PTS in a precarious position.
