Taiwan's U13 Baseball Tournament Kicks Off in Miaoli; Peng Cheng-min Hopes to Build a 'Taiwanese Williamsport'

The second 'Taiwan Martian Baseball Tournament and U13 National Soft Baseball Invitational' has officially opened in Miaoli, Taiwan, bringing together young talent from across several counties. The event aims to foster a love for baseball and provide a platform for budding athletes to showcase their skills.

Peng Cheng-min, a former professional baseball star and current leader of the CTBC Brothers team, serves as the honorary chairman for the Taiwan Martian Sports Development Association. He was present at the opening ceremony to cheer on the participants, emphasizing the tournament's goal of creating a festive, carnival-like atmosphere akin to the prestigious Little League World Series held in Williamsport, USA.

We hope that Taiwan can have a baseball event like a carnival, similar to Williamsport in the United States.

Miaoli County's Deputy Magistrate, Lai Hsiang-ling, also attended, encouraging the children to enjoy the competition, make friends through the sport, and perform their best. She highlighted baseball's status as Taiwan's national sport and expressed pride in Miaoli hosting the event, hoping it will play a significant role in nurturing future baseball stars.

The tournament features teams from Miaoli, Hsinchu, Taichung, Nantou, and Taoyuan. Organizers and county officials expressed gratitude for the participation and support from various sponsors and units. They are committed to continuing the development of grassroots baseball, enhancing sports education, and improving training environments to cultivate more talent for Taiwan's baseball future.
