Taiwan’s Weekday Hotel Subsidies Begin, With Local Deals Offering Savings of Up to NT$7,000

Taiwan’s weekday lodging subsidy program began on Sept. 1, with local governments and hotels adding their own incentives to encourage travel outside weekends and peak periods.

The central program runs until Nov. 30 or until its budget is exhausted. In general areas, travelers can receive up to NT$800 off the first night and NT$1,200 off a second consecutive night. The limits rise to NT$1,000 and NT$1,500 respectively in offshore areas. The Tourism Administration said 2.22 million people had registered by launch day.

Local offers vary widely. Hualien provides up to NT$2,000 for each of the first two nights and up to NT$500 for nights three through 12, for a possible total of NT$7,000. Travelers must stay at least two consecutive nights in the same property. Hualien residents can receive an additional first-night subsidy of up to NT$1,200.

Other cities are offering prizes, vouchers and extra discounts. New Taipei is giving eligible users who complete themed routes through the city app a NT$1,000 accommodation voucher. Hsinchu City offers NT$1,000 per room per night for a limited number of stays, while Hsinchu County offers a NT$500 travel voucher to eligible visitors.

Taoyuan has combined travel packages with shopping-lottery opportunities. Tainan hotels are offering a free third night for weekday stays of three nights, alongside prize draws and accommodation points. Taitung offers an extra reward for a third night after visitors complete a two-night stay, while Kinmen is offering eligible adults a 300-milliliter bottle of Kinmen kaoliang liquor, subject to limited supplies. Hotels nationwide are also adding room upgrades, dining credits, attraction tickets and consecutive-night discounts. Taiwan’s high-speed rail operator has created a dedicated section listing participating hotels and related travel deals.
