Taiwan Solidarity Union Candidate Registers for Chiayi East District Council Race, Pledging a Safer City and Youth Return

Ho Yi-jui registered Monday as the Taiwan Solidarity Union candidate for a Chiayi City East District council seat, presenting herself as a candidate focused on practical problems in residents’ daily lives.

The 48-year-old Ho was born in Minxiong Township in Chiayi County and moved with her family to Chiayi City after elementary school. She studied pharmaceutical chemistry at Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science and political science at National Chung Cheng University. Her previous work includes serving as an aide to Tainan City Councilor Tang Ching-yi, New Taipei legislator Chang Hung-lu and Chiayi City Councilor Wang Hao.

Ho said her long involvement in volunteer firefighting led her to make a “safe city” her top campaign priority. If elected, she plans to promote smart residential safety, electrical safety inspections for older homes, smart care for older people, safety measures for women and children, and improvements to community public spaces.

Chiayi is my home, and it is the place I chose to return to and continue serving.

Her platform also calls for youth entrepreneurship to support the local economy, more opportunities for young people to settle in or return to Chiayi, and cooperation between local industries and universities. She said young people should not have to choose between living in their hometown and building a career. Other proposals include child-friendly spaces, mental-health support, professional help against bullying, community mutual-aid networks and sexual-violence prevention.

“Chiayi is my home, and it is the place I chose to return to and continue serving,” Ho said. “The politics I hope for does not create division through a louder voice. It sees the problem clearly, prepares the method, and then completes the work step by step.”
