Taiwan to Host Sweden in Davis Cup Tie with Asian Games Stars

Taiwan's men's tennis team is set to host Sweden in the Davis Cup World Group I tie on September 19 and 20 at the Taipei Tennis Center. The Chinese Taipei Tennis Association has announced a formidable roster for the home fixture, featuring prominent players like Hsu Yu-hsiou and Tseng Chun-hsin, both medalists from the recent Asian Games.

This marks Taiwan's sixth consecutive year hosting a Davis Cup tie. The team's successful promotion to World Group I in February, with crucial singles victories from Wu Tung-lin and doubles wins from Hsieh Cheng-peng and Huang Tsung-hao, secured their place against Lebanon. Now, the squad is reinforced with the return of Hsu Yu-hsiou, Tseng Chun-hsin, and Ho Cheng-jui, alongside Wu Tung-lin and Lee Kuan-yi, forming a strong lineup of top singles and doubles players.

Led by captain Yang Tsung-hua, who will also serve as coach, the team aims to advance to the Davis Cup Finals and use the competition as preparation for the upcoming Asian Games. This encounter is particularly significant as it is the first time Taiwan will face Sweden in the history of the Davis Cup.

Sweden, a nation with a rich Davis Cup history, having won the title seven times, is expected to present a strong challenge. Their anticipated lineup includes notable players such as Elias Ymer, currently ranked 212 in the ATP singles rankings, Olle Wallin at 415, and the doubles pair of Andre Goransson, who is ranked 33rd in doubles. The tie promises to be a competitive clash between two nations with distinct Davis Cup legacies.
