Taiwanese Beach Volleyball Duo Advances Despite Mid-Match Injury

Taiwanese beach volleyball duo Liu Pi-hsin and Wang Hsin-ting have advanced to the top 16 at the second annual Taichung Bank AVC Beach Volleyball Tour Pingtung Open. The pair secured their spot by defeating New Zealand's Tineke Hinton and Meile Rose Green in a hard-fought three-set match (21-18, 15-21, 15-13).

Despite their victory, the match was marred by a mid-game collision. Liu suffered a broken nose when she was accidentally hit by her teammate Wang while attempting to play a ball that fell between them. Liu was bleeding heavily but insisted on continuing the match after receiving treatment, showcasing remarkable resilience.

Wang expressed remorse for the incident, explaining that Liu had called for the ball but she didn't hear her clearly. She felt guilty about injuring her senior teammate but was relieved by the positive match outcome. The duo's fighting spirit was praised.

The ball was hit by the opponent between the two of us. Liu Pi-hsin shouted, but I didn't hear clearly at the time. When I went to receive it, my head hit my teammate's nose, and it bled on the spot, making me very guilty.

Another Taiwanese pair, Yu Ya-hsuan and Pan Tzu-yi, were eliminated after losing a close three-set match to a Filipino team, a disappointing end to their tournament.
