Taiwanese Candidates Eat Hsinchu Rice Noodles to Boost Local Confidence Amid Food Scare

Taiwanese politicians Chuang Ching-Tung, a candidate for Hsinchu mayor, and Shen Po-Yang, running for Taipei mayor, met to discuss their electoral challenges. Both candidates are competing in what they describe as difficult "dual safety" districts. During a political talk show, they shared their experiences and efforts in their respective campaigns. To address concerns about local food products, they specifically ate Hsinchu rice noodles, aiming to restore consumer confidence. A recent food safety incident involving formaldehyde in rice noodles had impacted local businesses. Chuang emphasized that Hsinchu is a significant city in his life, where he has lived, worked, and built a family since 2005. He argued against the "airdrop" label some critics use, asserting that his commitment to Hsinchu is genuine. He also presented Shen with a peace charm from the Hsinchu City God Temple, wishing them both success in their challenging elections. The politicians also sampled other local Hsinchu delicacies, including traditional cakes and desserts, to highlight the city's diverse culinary offerings.
