Taiwanese community event gets major pork donation, boosting appeal

Tucheng Township in Yunlin County, Taiwan, is gearing up for its highly anticipated "Thousand People Free BBQ" event, now in its third year. The event, scheduled for September 12, has seen an overwhelming response, with nearly 1,400 groups applying for just 150 available spots through a lottery system.

This year's event promises an even greater value thanks to a generous donation from a northern food company. The chairman of Baijie International Food Co., Ltd., Xu Congfu, has added 1 kilogram of premium barbecue pork slices, valued at several hundred NT dollars, to each table. This addition has generated significant excitement among applicants, with many calling it an incredible "CP value" and urging others to sign up quickly.

Township Mayor Chen Te-kai highlighted that Xu, a Yunlin native who started his business in the north, continues to support his hometown. Xu's commitment to promoting local specialties and revitalizing the community is deeply appreciated. Last year's attendees praised the quality and quantity of the donated pork, with many taking leftovers home.

The application period runs until August 25th at noon, and the lottery draw will be broadcast live on the township's Facebook page on September 2nd. The event will feature a variety of grilled items, including marinated pork, pork belly, sausages, mackerel, fish cakes, and vegetable sets, along with grills and post-event gifts of local agricultural products. The intense competition for the 150 spots underscores the event's popularity and the community's enthusiasm for this annual gathering.
