Taiwanese Councilor Denies Millions in Gambling Debt Allegations After Service Center Vandalized

The service center of independent Tainan City Councilor Chiu Chao-sheng was vandalized on the evening of October 28. Police initially stated the incident stemmed from an unresolved civil service case, leading to violence. Four suspects were arrested and transferred to the Tainan District Prosecutors Office.

However, three days later, online posts emerged accusing Chiu of owing millions in gambling debts, mortgaging his home, and operating a fraudulent investment scheme under the guise of city government insider information. The posts specifically detailed alleged debts totaling tens of millions and a NT$10 million guarantee for a temple chairman, threatening further vandalism and electoral sabotage if the debts were not addressed.
