Taiwanese legal agent severely burned by neighbor with boiling water after elevator dispute

A dispute over elevator use escalated into a violent assault in Taoyuan, Taiwan, leaving a 63-year-old legal agent with severe burns. The incident occurred on July 30 when the victim, identified by his surname Wang, was returning home and encountered his 52-year-old neighbor, surnamed Zhou, in the building's elevator.

According to reports, an argument erupted over elevator operation and passage. The confrontation intensified at the fifth-floor elevator lobby, where Zhou allegedly blocked Wang from leaving the elevator and then poured boiling water over him. Wang sustained second-degree burns on multiple parts of his body, including his head, face, ears, neck, and hands.

Wang recounted the terrifying experience, stating that Zhou opened a bottle of hot water and poured it directly over his head. He believes the attack may stem from a past incident where he, as the building's former chairman, refused Zhou's request for a 300,000 New Taiwan Dollar loan. Wang's wife also suggested Zhou's actions were premeditated and that he had previously exhibited behavior that frightened residents.

Both individuals have filed charges against each other for assault and unlawful detention. Police are investigating the incident and have summoned both parties for questioning. The attack highlights a disturbing escalation of conflict between neighbors, stemming from a seemingly minor disagreement.
