Taiwanese legislator clarifies 'leak' on mayor's presidential ambitions

Taiwanese legislator Yeh Yuan-chih has vehemently denied "leaking" information about Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen's supposed presidential ambitions, attributing the controversy to a misunderstanding during a media interview. Yeh explained that his remarks were a direct response to provocative questioning by former legislator Kao Chia-yu on an online program.

During the interview, Kao reportedly pressed Yeh about the political standings of Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an and Lu Shiow-yen. Yeh stated he was merely responding to Kao's prompts, suggesting that if Lu were to consider a presidential run after her mayoral term concludes on December 25th, it would be a natural development. He claimed the media subsequently misinterpreted his response as a deliberate "leak."

Yeh expressed frustration, insisting he had no insider information and was simply engaging with the host's line of questioning. He pointed out that he had even prefaced his remarks by stating he was not a member of the Taichung city government and lacked specific knowledge. The clarification comes after reports suggested Lu's office had distanced itself from Yeh's initial comments.
