Taiwanese Man Missing in Sydney for Four Days; Friends Report Negative Thoughts

Authorities in Sydney are appealing for public assistance in locating a 31-year-old Taiwanese national, Shihyao Chiu, who has been missing since June 30. Chiu, also known by the English name Kurt, was last seen on the evening of June 30. The New South Wales Police Force shared a public appeal on Facebook, describing Chiu and noting his last known attire: a black hooded sweatshirt, dark trousers, and white Adidas sneakers. Police stated he often frequented the Maroubra, Waterloo, and Turella areas in Sydney's south. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Sydney has also issued a notice, urging Taiwanese residents in Australia to help with the search. Chiu is described as being approximately 165 to 175 cm tall, with a slim build, black hair, and black eyes. He may be driving a white hatchback. Concerns for his safety have been heightened by reports from friends and family that he had expressed negative thoughts and feelings of helplessness prior to his disappearance, with some suggesting he may have left hints of suicidal intent. His mobile phone has been switched off since he went missing.
