Taiwanese Officials Indicted for Forging Singer's Intent to Perform at Ceremony

A man and his employee face fraud charges in Taoyuan, Taiwan, for allegedly submitting a forged document to win a contract for the Bade District's New Year's Day flag-raising ceremony. The case centers on a purported letter of intent to have singer Saya Chang, also known as Zhang Huichun, perform the national anthem.

The accused, identified as the 38-year-old head of an entertainment marketing company, and a 34-year-old female employee, are alleged to have fabricated the document. Prosecutors claim they used Saya Chang's photo and resume in their bid proposal, despite having no actual plan to hire her. The company was the sole bidder for the NT$350,000 contract.

During the bid evaluation, a committee member reportedly questioned the feasibility of securing Saya Chang as the performer. To satisfy this concern, the accused allegedly forged Saya Chang's signature on a letter of intent, submitting it to the Bade District Office on December 16. The forgery was exposed on New Year's Day when Saya Chang did not appear to perform the anthem as promised.

Following the discovery, the Bade District Office filed a complaint. Prosecutors have indicted the two individuals on fraud charges. They have requested a seven-month prison sentence for each, citing their lack of remorse and continued attempts to fabricate explanations, stating their post-offense behavior was poor.
