Taiwanese player Lin An-ko on bench as Seibu Lions pitcher Tomoyuki Sumida throws season's third shutout

Taiwanese baseball player Lin An-ko found himself on the bench for the Seibu Lions' recent game against the Rakuten Eagles, despite a strong offensive performance in the previous match where he hit a home run and drove in five runs. The decision to bench him came as the Lions faced Rakuten's ace left-handed pitcher, Takayuki Kawahara, leading the Seibu lineup to feature seven right-handed batters.

In Lin An-ko's absence from the starting lineup, the Seibu Lions managed to secure a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a dominant pitching performance from Tomoyuki Sumida. Sumida was in exceptional form, throwing a complete game over nine innings. He struck out seven batters, issued one walk, and allowed only three hits, effectively stifling the Rakuten Eagles' offense.

Sumida's masterful outing, completed in 107 pitches, marked his third shutout of the season and earned him his ninth win. His earned run average now stands at a respectable 2.19.
