Taiwanese pop icon You Ya announces return concert after 15 years

Taiwanese pop icon You Ya is set to return to the stage in Taiwan for a solo concert, marking her first performance there in 15 years. The 72-year-old singer, who was the first official student of the late musician Liu Chia-chang, is highly regarded in the Mandopop scene, with stars like Jacky Cheung and Andy Lau citing her as an idol.

Known for her sweet voice and charming appearance, You Ya rose to fame with Liu Chia-chang's song "Past Can Only Be Recalled." This classic hit, along with her extensive discography of over 123 works, cemented her status as a superstar in the Chinese music industry, with her music achieving widespread popularity across Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Long-time resident of the United States, You Ya maintains an active performance schedule, typically undertaking three to four shows annually. She expressed her long-held desire to perform in Taiwan again, citing scheduling and logistical challenges as reasons for the delay. The upcoming concert, organized by Global Music Management, is a realization of this aspiration.

Interestingly, the concert date, October 24, coincides with the FIFA World Cup. You Ya noted this is a recurring coincidence, as her previous major concerts in Taipei in 2006 and 2010 also overlapped with the global football event. A self-proclaimed sports enthusiast, she enjoys watching various sports, including football, American football, baseball, tennis, and golf.

The concert, titled "You Ya Past Can Only Be Recalled 2026 Classic Encore," will take place at the Kaohsiung Music Center. You Ya expressed excitement about returning to Kaohsiung, observing its transformation into an international city. She plans to perform beloved hits like "Past Can Only Be Recalled," "In the Rain," and the Hokkien classic "Waiting for No One," aiming to transport the audience back to a romantic era of music.
