Taiwanese Telcos Launch Summer Roaming Deals with Data Boosts and Prizes

Taiwan's three major telecommunications providers – Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and Far EasTone – have launched special international roaming promotions to capitalize on the summer travel peak. With Japan and South Korea being popular destinations, these offers aim to provide travelers with convenient and secure internet access abroad.

The promotions address recent security concerns raised by the Digital Security Administration regarding low-cost eSIMs. By offering deals on traditional "original number" roaming services, the carriers emphasize enhanced data security and convenience. These deals are available from now until August 31st.

Chunghwa Telecom is providing data upgrades without additional cost on select Japan and South Korea plans. For example, a 8GB Japan plan is upgraded to 10GB for NT$688, and a 12GB plan becomes 15GB for NT$988. South Korea plans also see upgrades, with a 10GB option for NT$588 and a 15GB option for NT$788. Customers applying via online stores or apps also have a chance to win prizes like a Sony PS5 Pro or Nintendo Switch 2.

Taiwan Mobile highlights its app as a one-stop service for roaming, travel insurance, and travel inconvenience insurance, completed in just three minutes. They offer various travel discounts, such as up to 7% off at Don Quijote in Japan. Specific roaming plans include a limited-edition NT$100 Lawson convenience store voucher and an ice cream coupon for Japan, and a daily plan for NT$99 or an extra 2GB on a 10GB plan for South Korea.

Far EasTone is promoting a "pay NT$1 more, get 1GB extra" deal applicable to select quantitative data packages for Japan, 13 Asian countries, and 129 transcontinental countries. Their Japan-specific plan offers an upgrade from 12GB to 15GB for an additional NT$3. Additionally, customers applying for designated plans can enter a draw to win one of 200 NT$100 global roaming credits.
