Taiwanese variety show 'Fate' gets new hosts and format

Taiwan's popular long-running variety show, "Fate" (Ming Yun Hao Hao Wan), is set to debut a significant transformation with a new hosting duo and an expanded format. The program, previously hosted by Chen Ya-lan and He Du-lin, will now be helmed by "Xiao Lai" Lai Yan-ju, a member of the boy band "Wu Jian Qing," and renowned fortune teller Tang Zhen-wei. This change marks a shift from its established studio-based format to a more dynamic "studio plus location shooting" approach.

The production team expressed gratitude to the outgoing hosts, explaining that Chen Ya-lan's departure was due to her busy acting schedule and inability to manage the demanding new format. The revamped "Fate" is scheduled to premiere in mid-July on JET TV. The new hosts, Lai Yan-ju and Tang Zhen-wei, have begun recording episodes, with the show promising to take viewers across Taiwan to explore various temples, experience religious practices, and offer on-site feng shui consultations.

Both new hosts admitted to feeling nervous about taking the reins of such a long-standing program. Tang Zhen-wei, a familiar face as a regular guest on the show, described the transition to hosting as encountering "the most familiar stranger." Lai Yan-ju outlined their collaborative dynamic: "The professional fortune-telling aspects will be handled by Teacher Tang, while I'll focus on the interviews." They appealed to viewers for patience and continued support as they settle into their new roles.

Lai Yan-ju, who has a personal interest in fortune-telling, shared that he recently received readings from three Korean fortune tellers who predicted a decade of good luck starting this year. Tang Zhen-wei corroborated this, noting Lai Yan-ju's consistently high scores in recent assessments, indicating a strong period of fortune. However, Tang Zhen-wei also cautioned about potential volatility, identifying the Year of the Sheep, Horse, and Snake as being particularly turbulent this summer. He somberly referenced the recent passing of artist Fu Zichun from leukemia, advising those born in the Year of the Sheep to pay close attention to their health during the summer months.

When questioned about investments amidst a volatile stock market, Lai Yan-ju humorously deflected, stating, "The stock market is down today, who isn't losing money?" Regarding celebrity support for the show, Lai Yan-ju confirmed that Chen Ling-jiu would appear after resolving personal matters. He expressed uncertainty about whether host恺乐 (Kaile) would participate, suggesting she might prefer to focus on spending time with her child.
