Tamaulipas Prosecutor's Office confirms arrest in Dafne Zapata femicide; denies reclassification of crime

The Attorney General of Justice of Tamaulipas, Jesús Eduardo Govea, confirmed the arrest of an individual linked to the investigation into the death of teenager Dafne "N" at a militarized academy in Ciudad Madero. Govea emphasized that the case has been investigated as femicide from the very beginning and has not been reclassified, despite claims circulating on social media.

Govea assured that the Tamaulipas Prosecutor's Office is working with strict adherence to the law and due process to apprehend those responsible for the minor's death and ensure justice. He acknowledged the public outrage over Dafne's death, reiterating that the investigation has always followed the protocol for investigating femicide since the initial report of the events.

It has been disseminated and said that there was a reclassification. This is inaccurate. From the beginning, from the moment we became aware and due to the nature of the reported event, it was initiated under this protocol.

He clarified that versions suggesting a change in the case's classification are inaccurate. The investigation commenced on July 17, and since then, various ministerial actions, interviews with minors present at the academy, and specialized forensic analyses have been conducted to reconstruct the circumstances of the teenager's death. Regarding the first arrest, Govea specified that the individual was not detained after voluntarily appearing to give a statement, but rather after having been previously interviewed and subsequently appearing at the Prosecutor's Office to file a personal complaint.
