Tamil Nadu CM Vijay holds meeting to discuss delimitation; DMK, AIADMK skip

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay led a meeting with the state's MPs to discuss the central government's proposed delimitation plan. However, the deliberations were marred by a boycott from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the state's two largest opposition parties.

Both DMK and AIADMK dismissed the meeting as a "farce" and "drama." The AIADMK labeled it a "hurriedly staged drama," pointing out that no new delimitation bill has been introduced in Parliament and there has been no official announcement regarding the proposal. The DMK questioned the basis of the meeting, with MP K. Kanimozhi stating that while her party is not entirely against delimitation, they are seeking a "fair delimitation" to protect Tamil Nadu's rights.

We are not completely against delimitation. We are asking for a fair delimitation. During the election, DMK President and that time CM MK Stalin had made it clear that protecting Tamil Nadu was more important than electoral victory. More than winning the election, we need to protect the rights of Tamil Nadu. That is our aim and our leader’s aim.

Despite the boycott by the major parties, MPs from the ruling TVK's alliance, including the Congress, VCK, MDMK, and IUML, along with friendly parties CPI and CPI(M), participated in the meeting. A total of 19 MPs attended, including prominent figures like Congress veteran P. Chidambaram and VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan.

The meeting focused on the central government's proposal for delimitation and its potential impact on Tamil Nadu. The absence of DMK, which has 30 MPs, and AIADMK, with 5 MPs, significantly reduced the representation at the discussion. The Congress party criticized the DMK and AIADMK for their absence, calling it "disappointing" given their history in state politics.
