Tanker hit by unidentified object off Oman coast; regional tensions simmer

A tanker sustained damage after being struck by an unidentified flying object off the coast of Oman, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The vessel suffered engine room damage and lost its ability to maneuver. No injuries or pollution were reported.

Several hours later, a second tanker reported significant splashes and explosions in its vicinity. While the ship itself was not damaged and its crew remained safe, the incident raised further concerns about maritime security in the region.

Iran announced it was nearing an agreement with Oman on new shipping routes through the strait, shortly after U.S. President Trump announced he was halting planned strikes against Iran to allow for diplomatic negotiations.
