Taoyuan 3x3 Basketball Tournament Draws 8,000 Players, Features NBA Star Zach LaVine

Taoyuan City is hosting its 10th annual 3x3 basketball tournament, drawing an impressive participation of nearly 8,000 players from 2,075 teams. The "Taoyuan Cup National 3x3 Basketball Tournament" officially kicked off at the Zhutou Fishing Port Sky Dome Plaza, with Mayor Chang San-cheng presiding over the opening ceremony.

This year's event, themed "Battle on the Court, Decide in Taoyuan," is uniquely integrated with the "Pearl Coast Music Festival." Adding star power to the festivities, two-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion Zach LaVine is in attendance. LaVine arrived in Taiwan on August 1st and has already engaged with local student teams, generating significant excitement among fans.

Mayor Chang highlighted the synergy between the basketball tournament and the music festival, noting that this cross-cultural event aims to boost Taoyuan's profile as a tourist destination. He expressed confidence that the continued collaboration will establish the "Pearl Coast" area as a major national tourism event. Last year's event featured NBA stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Kawhi Leonard, setting a high bar for this year's engagement with LaVine.

The tournament, spanning multiple venues including Zhutou Fishing Port, Taoyuan High School, and Longtan Overpass basketball courts, will run preliminary, semi-final, and final rounds. The finals are scheduled for August 23rd at National Central University. With a total prize pool of NT$600,000, the Taoyuan Cup continues to foster a platform for basketball enthusiasts of all ages to compete and connect.
