Taoyuan candidate slams mayor for 'policy paralysis' on key projects

Taoyuan mayoral candidate Huang Shih-chieh, representing the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has sharply criticized incumbent Mayor Chang San-cheng's administration, accusing it of "policy paralysis" and causing the city to lose valuable development time. Huang pointed to significant delays in two key projects: the Asia Silicon Valley Innovation and Research Center and the Zhongli giant dome stadium.

Huang stated that the Asia Silicon Valley project had already been contracted and construction was underway during the previous DPP administration. However, he claimed that after Chang San-cheng took office, the contract was terminated, and a new bidding process was initiated. This resulted in over NT$10 million spent on evaluation plans, yet the project remains stalled. Similarly, the Zhongli Sports Park's giant dome project has been postponed, with its bid opening now scheduled for after the elections, potentially in December.

The Asia Silicon Valley innovation and research center was already contracted and the project was underway during the previous mayor's term. More than 10 million was spent on evaluations, and the Zhongli Sports Park's giant dome project has also been delayed, from the original June to after the election, with bidding scheduled for December. He further elaborated on local issues, citing traffic congestion in Zhongli, especially during rainy weather, as a major concern for residents. Huang attributed the persistent roadwork and traffic disruptions to poor inter-departmental coordination within the city government, leading to multiple construction projects on the same roads, reducing traffic lanes and causing significant inconvenience.

Huang pledged that if elected mayor, he would prioritize administrative efficiency and ensure that projects move forward swiftly. He emphasized the importance of "diligence," a principle he shares with local councilor Huang Chung-chen, whom he urged voters to support for re-election. Huang believes that with his leadership and councilor Huang's oversight, Zhongli can be revitalized and Taoyuan can advance further.
