Taoyuan City demands Tsing Hua University revise plan or face land repossession

The Taoyuan City government has demanded that National Tsing Hua University revise its proposed 'Tsing Hua Science Park Taoyuan Base' plan, warning that land repossession procedures will be initiated if the university fails to submit a concrete and feasible proposal within the given deadline.

The city government had previously allocated approximately 7.2 hectares of municipal land in Dayuan District to Tsing Hua University for the construction of a hospital and an education research park. Although the university initially signed an MOU with Kaohsiung Medical University for a hospital project costing billions, the plan was eventually abandoned.

After seven years without tangible results, there has been significant public pressure to reclaim the land. Tsing Hua University has since proposed a new plan for a 'Tsing Hua Science Park Taoyuan Base.' However, the city government finds the plan's details and development timeline unclear. The university's original vision of establishing a major hospital in Dayuan has been dashed, with university officials admitting they could not proceed due to difficulties in securing personnel and funding.

The city government officially requested the university on July 9 to supplement the plan with specific details within one month. If Tsing Hua University fails to respond within the deadline or if the submitted plan remains unfeasible, the city government will proceed with land repossession in accordance with the "Taoyuan City Municipal Property Management Self-Government Regulations."
