Taoyuan Launches Maker Education Center with 20 Summer Courses

Taoyuan City's Youth Affairs Bureau has inaugurated its "Maker Education Center," a facility designed to foster innovation and practical skills among young people. Located within the bureau's building, the center will offer 20 specialized courses throughout the summer vacation, focusing on digital manufacturing and creative applications.

The initiative, themed "Hands-on Creation for the Future," brings in advisors from the Taoyuan Makers Association to guide participants in operating maker equipment. This aims to lower the barrier for individuals interested in exploring digital fabrication technologies. The center will also host regular "Taoyuan Repair Cafe" sessions, where professional teams will assist citizens in repairing small appliances, promoting a culture of repair and sustainable consumption.

Furthermore, the city government, in collaboration with the Taoyuan Makers Association, is organizing a "National Shipbuilding Competition." This event is designed to stimulate youth creativity and problem-solving abilities through a blend of design thinking, teamwork, and engineering practice.

Youth Bureau Director Hou Chia-ling emphasized that in the face of rapid AI development, the most resilient skills are those involving proactive thinking, hands-on practice, and real-world problem-solving. The Maker Education Center is positioned as a crucial starting point for youth to transition from merely using tools to creating solutions, thereby cultivating essential competencies for the future.
