Taoyuan Skywalks Too Far From MRT Station, Residents Demand Direct Connection

Residents in the A7 urban development area are voicing concerns over the inconvenient design of planned skywalks, which are situated a considerable 50 meters from the Taoyuan Airport MRT's A7 station. This distance poses a significant inconvenience for commuters.

In response to these concerns, the city government's Urban Development Bureau has proposed constructing a canopy to cover the skywalks. These skywalks are being built by the Land Administration and Engineering Office as part of the urban plan's requirement for elevated pedestrian pathways.

The skywalks are designed in sections, connected by nodes, with developers responsible for building each segment. Since the land at both ends belongs to the Land Administration and Engineering Office, they are constructing these skywalks.

Local council members Chen Ya-lun and Li Tsung-hao have repeatedly highlighted the issue, advocating for a more direct connection between the skywalks and the A7 station. They argue that such an integration would greatly enhance convenience and improve the urban landscape, far surpassing the benefits of a simple canopy.

While the canopy offers protection from the elements, it does not fully address the core issue of accessibility. The council members are urging the city government to expedite plans for a direct skywalk-MRT station link, acknowledging that this may require changes to the current urban development plan.

The most ideal solution is to directly connect the skywalk to the A7 station, allowing people to avoid walking on the ground. While a canopy provides shade and rain protection, it's vastly different from a direct connection to the MRT station in terms of convenience and urban aesthetics.
