Tasmania Police Release Images of Alleged Murder Victim's Last Known Movements

Tasmania Police are seeking public assistance to piece together the final days of a woman found deceased in her New Town home. Images capturing her last known movements on March 18 have been released, offering a glimpse into her life shortly before she is believed to have died. The woman, estimated to be in her 60s, was discovered in her residence on Lissadell Court on Saturday, May 16, a discovery that police suspect occurred almost two months after her death.

As a result of investigations to date, we believe the woman was last alive around 18 March.

Authorities have charged 56-year-old Rajesh Jiwan with murder and the serious offense of failing to report a death. Jiwan appeared in court on Tuesday, with the case adjourned for a new date in June. The investigation is focused on establishing a timeline of the woman's activities leading up to her presumed death, with particular attention on her movements around the Glenorchy CBD and New Town areas, where she was known to frequent.

As we work to form a timeline, we're seeking assistance from the public in relation to the women's movements prior to when she was located.

Detective Inspector David Gill emphasized the importance of public cooperation in this investigation. Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen the woman, assisted her, or had any interactions with her since March 18 to come forward. The family has granted permission for images of the woman to be shared, though her name is being withheld. This case underscores the critical role of community vigilance and reporting in assisting law enforcement with complex investigations, especially when establishing timelines is crucial to uncovering the truth.
