Taxi and car crash on Yucatán highway injures 11; rain complicates rescue

A serious traffic accident occurred at the Motul-Kiní intersection on the Mérida-Tizimín highway in Yucatán, Mexico, leaving eleven people injured. The collision involved a collective taxi operating on the Tizimín-Mérida route and a compact private vehicle.

The incident happened as the taxi was heading towards Tizimín. The compact car, in the process of turning to join the road towards Motul, reportedly crossed into the path of the oncoming taxi, making a collision unavoidable. Passengers from both vehicles sustained injuries as a result of the impact.

Emergency services, including security personnel, firefighters, and paramedics from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), responded to the scene. Rescue operations were hampered by the prevailing weather conditions, with heavy rain falling at the time of the accident. Rescuers worked under the rain to attend to the injured and extricate individuals trapped within the vehicles.
