TCN refutes Kaduna Electric’s claim on Jos power supply

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has strongly refuted claims made by Kaduna Electric, stating that a fault on the 330kV Jos transmission line did not cause reduced power supply in Kaduna Electric's franchise area. TCN asserted that all 330kV transmission lines supplying Jos are operational and actively transmitting bulk electricity.

For the avoidance of doubt, all 330kV transmission lines connected to Jos are in service and transmitting bulk power.

In a statement, TCN described Kaduna Electric's assertion as "false and a deliberate misrepresentation of facts." The company clarified that there had been no disruption on any 330kV line supplying Jos since a circuit breaker on the Jos–Lafia 330kV Line 2 was restored on August 24. This circuit breaker had been opened on August 23 for routine voltage control to maintain grid stability.

TCN recorded a lone incident on 23rd August 2026 at 03:30hrs, when the Jos–Lafia 330kV Line 2 circuit breaker was opened for voltage control. This was a routine operational action to maintain grid stability.

Kaduna Electric had previously announced that reduced power supply was due to lower load allocation, citing an outage at the Shiroro Generating Station and a fault on the Jos transmission line. They reported receiving a reduced allocation of 104 megawatts for August 25.

There has been no outage or disruption of bulk electricity transmission on any 330kV line supplying Jos attributable to TCN since that restoration.

TCN urged Kaduna Electric and other stakeholders to verify information with the transmission company before issuing public statements. They advised electricity customers in Jos and its environs to disregard the "misleading information." TCN reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring stable and reliable bulk power transmission nationwide.
