Teach Microsoft 365 Copilot to draft your month-end commentary

Finance departments can now streamline repetitive tasks by creating custom AI agents within Microsoft 365 Copilot, a feature that requires no coding and can be set up in about an hour. This innovation addresses the inefficiency of repeatedly pasting refined prompts into AI chats for tasks like month-end commentary.

The new capability allows users to build an agent by defining its name, description, instructions, and attaching relevant knowledge files. Instead of re-explaining the job each month, users can simply activate the agent and direct it to perform the task. This means that formatting preferences, critical thresholds, and specific rules are automatically applied every time, ensuring consistency.

Beyond saving time, this feature standardizes processes. When commentary standards are stored in individual notes, they can be lost if an employee is unavailable. An agent, however, ensures that the entire team adheres to the same established standards, benefiting new hires and maintaining quality across the department.

Microsoft 365 Copilot also offers prebuilt agents, including Researcher, which gathers information from files, emails, and the web, and Analyst, which can process raw data to generate summaries and charts. These tools, along with others available in the agent store, can significantly enhance data analysis and information synthesis for finance professionals.
