Teachers’ Pension Names Park Joo-yong as New Executive Director

The Korea Teachers’ Pension has appointed Park Joo-yong, a former deputy education superintendent in South Gyeongsang Province, as its new executive director and head of the management division.

Park took office on Sept. 1 for a two-year term. He will oversee the pension agency’s overall management, including business strategy, organizational and personnel matters, budgeting and finance.

He graduated from Korea University’s Department of Education and earned a master’s degree in education policy from the University of Virginia. After passing the 37th national civil service examination, he began his career as an administrative officer. He later served as director of the Education Ministry’s early childhood education policy division, deputy superintendent of education in Jeonbuk State, secretary-general of the National Academy of Sciences and deputy superintendent of education in South Gyeongsang Province.

Korea Teachers’ Pension Chairman Song Ha-jung said Park’s experience and expertise in education administration would help strengthen trust in the institution as it provides stable retirement security for private-school teachers and staff.

Established in 1974, the public agency supports the livelihoods and welfare of employees at private schools and their families. It manages a fund of about 33 trillion won across bonds, equities and alternative investments.
