Team Nigeria Wins 10 Gold Medals at 2026 Commonwealth Games

Team Nigeria concluded the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a tally of 10 gold, seven silver, and five bronze medals. This performance falls short by one gold medal compared to their results at the Birmingham Games four years prior.

The final day of competition yielded a single gold medal, contrary to the four projected. In the men's 4x100m relay, Nigeria's quartet secured a bronze medal with a time of 38.12 seconds. Australia claimed gold (38.07s), and Canada was awarded silver after a successful protest overturned their disqualification. The Nigerian women's team finished sixth in their relay final.

A significant disappointment on the final day of track and field events was the bronze medal won by the 4x400m mixed relay team. Anchor leg runner Ella Onojuvwevwo made a tactical error, accelerating too early and failing to maintain her pace to the finish line.

Earlier, Samuel Ogazi lived up to his world No.1 ranking by winning the Men's 400m gold medal in 44.25 seconds. This marks his first senior medal at the Commonwealth Games. Ogazi, a finalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, had previously broken the national record, running 44.02 seconds.
