TECHO Launches Fundraising Campaign for Venezuelan Housing Reconstruction

TECHO, a Chilean non-governmental organization with a presence in 18 regional countries, has initiated an international fundraising drive to aid in Venezuela's reconstruction efforts. The campaign, named "Unidos por Venezuela," seeks to gather donations for constructing temporary shelters and repairing homes damaged by a recent powerful earthquake.

Juan José Ayerza, the CEO of TECHO, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "Venezuela is going through an emergency that left devastating consequences, and it is fundamental to act decisively. This campaign seeks to mobilize wills to change that reality and transform solidarity into action." He added, "Every contribution helps provide greater protection, dignity, and hope to those most in need."

The double earthquake, measuring 7.5 and 7.2 magnitude, struck Venezuela on June 24, resulting in nearly 5,400 deaths, at least 16,740 injuries, and approximately 18,000 people displaced. The disaster also caused extensive damage to infrastructure, including buildings, businesses, hospitals, schools, and transportation networks.

TECHO, which has been operating in Venezuela for 15 years, has a history of assisting in emergencies across the region, including forest fires, hurricanes, and earthquakes in Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Haiti. In its nearly three decades of existence, the organization has built over 153,000 homes throughout Latin America.
