Teenage Dancer Dies in Syracuse Scooter Crash

A promising young dancer's life was tragically cut short in a scooter accident in Syracuse, Italy. David, 15, died from severe injuries after the scooter he was riding collided with another motorcycle. He had been chosen for prestigious ballet performances, including "Coppélia" with choreography by Alexei Ratmansky in 2023 and "The Nutcracker" choreographed by Rudolf Nureyev in 2024.

David, originally from Syracuse, had moved to Milan to pursue his passion for dance, attending the prestigious ballet school of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala since 2022. He had recently returned to his hometown for a holiday break. The accident also left two other young people injured, one of whom, an 18-year-old, remains in intensive care with a guarded prognosis.

Local police are investigating the incident and have seized the two scooters involved. The accident occurred on a day marked by other tragic road fatalities involving young people. A 4-year-old girl died in a collision in the Bari region, and another 15-year-old lost his life in Salerno.
