Teenager detained in Panama over lawyer's assassination

A Panamanian court has ordered the provisional detention of a teenager suspected of involvement in the murder of lawyer Nadine de Jesús Silvera Pereira. The Fiscalía Segunda Superior de Adolescentes requested the measure during a hearing where the minor's apprehension was legalized, charges were filed, and detention was deemed the most appropriate precautionary measure.

The court's decision aims to protect potential survivors and witnesses, prevent the risk of flight, and safeguard evidence. The investigation centers on the assassination of Silvera Pereira, 36, which occurred on March 6 on Avenida Centenario in Costa del Este. Authorities are treating the case as a contract killing.

According to the Public Ministry, the victim was a passenger in a vehicle when unidentified individuals on a motorcycle attacked her. This latest judicial development is part of ongoing efforts to clarify the homicide.

This case is also linked to another man already in provisional detention. He is being investigated by the Homicide and Femicide Section of the Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office for alleged crimes against life and personal integrity, specifically aggravated intentional homicide as a primary accomplice, and criminal association as a perpetrator.
