Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Dismisses Forest Minister Konda Surekha

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy moved to remove Forest and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha from his Cabinet after a dispute over remarks made by her daughter against him and other Congress leaders.

The chief minister sent the recommendation to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office. He also withdrew G. Chinna Reddy’s appointment as vice chairman of the State Planning Board with immediate effect.

The decisions followed meetings in New Delhi involving Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, state Congress president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and senior All India Congress Committee leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and K. C. Venugopal. The state Congress disciplinary committee had recommended strong action against Surekha and Chinna Reddy.

Surekha met Kharge and party affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and presented her position. She told reporters that she had asked the leadership to let her remain in the Cabinet, saying she had performed well as minister and faced no corruption allegations. She also questioned calls from Congress lawmakers for disciplinary action and said “somebody” was behind their criticism, without naming anyone.

Surekha said her daughter was independent and that she should not be held responsible for her comments. After Chinna Reddy’s removal, the government appointed State Women’s Commission chairperson Gadwal Vijayalakshmi as planning board vice chairperson. Former MP G. Sudha Rani was appointed chairperson of the Kakatiya Urban Development Board in Warangal.
