'Tell Me Everything' Shatters Ophir Awards Record with 16 Nominations

The Israeli film 'Tell Me Everything' has achieved a historic milestone, earning a record-breaking 16 nominations for the Ophir Awards, Israel's national film awards.

Written and directed by Moshe Rosenthal, the film premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and subsequently at the Jerusalem Film Festival. It delves into the story of a young boy in 1987 who grapples with the revelation that his father is gay. The movie, known as 'Independence' in Hebrew, is nominated in major categories including best picture, best director, best screenplay, best actor, and best actress.

Competing for best picture is Avi Nesher's 'Our Loves,' which weaves together narratives of individuals affected by the October 7 Hamas attacks. Also in contention are 'Where To?', a co-production focusing on a Palestinian Uber driver in Berlin, and 'Mama,' about a Polish woman working in Israel. 'Home' and 'The Wedding Entertainer' round out the best picture nominees.

The winner of the Ophir Award for best picture traditionally serves as Israel's submission for the Academy Awards' best international feature film category. This process has previously been marked by controversy, notably when last year's winner, 'The Sea,' led to the Culture Minister threatening to cut funding for the awards.
