Organizers announced Sunday that the Italian star's withdrawal means he will miss his second major tournament leading up to the US Open in late August. "My right knee hurts and, despite the hard work done with my medical team, I have to accept that I am not yet ready to compete," Sinner stated. "I look forward to returning next year and will now focus on preparing for the US Open." His participation in Cincinnati had been uncertain, adding to the anticipation surrounding his fitness.

This withdrawal is a significant setback for the Cincinnati tournament, which is also without Carlos Alcaraz this summer. It is also a blow to Sinner himself, who has achieved a record six consecutive Masters 1000 titles in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome. His recent form has been exceptional, making this absence particularly notable.

Reports from Corriere della Sera indicated Sinner underwent a medical examination recently, suggesting his knee has been a persistent issue. This caution is understandable as he aims for a second US Open title after his 2024 victory. His last hard court match was the Miami final on March 30, and he is heading to the US Open with minimal preparation on the surface after a demanding grass and clay court season.
