Tennis: Korpatsch reaches Hamburg semifinals

Tamara Korpatsch has advanced to the semifinals of the Hamburg Ladies Open, achieving her most significant success to date at her hometown WTA 250 tournament. The current top German player secured her spot in the final four by defeating the second-seeded Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina in a hard-fought quarterfinal match.

Korpatsch won the match with a score of 6:3, 1:6, and 6:1. The contest on the Centre Court saw a rollercoaster of emotions for the local favorite. Korpatsch initially led the first set 5:1 but then dropped two games and had to fend off two break points. After a decisive loss in the second set and falling behind 0:1 in the deciding third set, Korpatsch regained control, dominating the play and converting her first match point to secure the victory.

In the semifinals, Korpatsch is scheduled to play against Mayar Sherif of Egypt. Sherif advanced after a marathon match lasting over 3 hours and 26 minutes against Paula Badosa of Spain, winning 7:6 (7:4), 6:7 (2:7), and 6:4. The other semifinal will feature Elina Avanesyan of Armenia against Anna Bondar of Hungary. Avanesyan benefited from the withdrawal of top seed Oleksandra Olijnykowa due to an abdominal muscle injury, while last year's finalist Bondar defeated Alina Charaeva.
