Tensions rise in Verona over CasaPound national rally as anti-fascists vow to turn out

The tension around CasaPound Italia’s national gathering in Verona is rising, with anti-fascist residents promising to show up against the event, although they have not yet decided whether to hold a rally or a vigil.

CasaPound plans to stage its “Festa della rivoluzione” in Ca’ di David from September 10 to 13. The exact location has not been disclosed, but the event will take place on private property. The group has advertised four days of politics, culture, music, sport and solidarity, with participants expected from across Italy and from abroad.

The gathering is being promoted by CasaPound, which describes itself as part of the “fascists of the third millennium.” It follows a similar event held by the group in the Verona area in 2019, on the hills around Roncà.

The Veronese committee for the defense of the Constitution, along with Sinistra Italiana representatives Luca Perini and Jessica Cugini, has called for “no space for neo-fascist mobilization in our territories.” An anti-fascist statement said little had moved institutionally beyond the committee’s appeal, questioning whether authorities considered the use of private land enough to make the event acceptable.

The group warned that similar events in Verona had been followed by violence and attacks against people seen as different. It also opposed allowing private spaces to be used by organizations it described as openly inspired by racist, fascist, xenophobic and homophobic ideas. Meanwhile, Forza Nuova’s security marches and a separate “presidio e strade sicure” initiative linked to Vannacci supporters are competing for visibility across the city.
