Terror in Cauca: Explosives-laden drones attack police outpost in rural Cajibío

Panic spread through El Carmelo, in the rural area of Cajibío, after several drones loaded with explosive devices flew over a police outpost and dropped detonators. The attack, reported during the early hours of Sunday, September 6, was accompanied by dense bursts of rifle fire aimed at officers from different points around the rural sector.

Residents shared photographs and videos on social media showing the aircraft over the station. The recordings also captured the sound of explosions and gunfire as the assault continued. Facing the danger of a confrontation, families in the area took shelter inside their homes to protect themselves.

The combined attack created a serious public-order situation in Cauca. Preliminary reports from the community attributed the assault to FARC dissidents operating in the region, but authorities still had to investigate before confirming responsibility.

Residents and the wider public were awaiting an official assessment of the incident, including whether anyone had been injured or killed and the extent of the damage to the police facility.
