Terrorists kill eight in attack on Borno army base

Terrorists launched a deadly pre-dawn attack on a Nigerian Army base in Mandaragirau, Borno State, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The assault occurred early Friday morning at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau, which operates under the 25 Brigade of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI.

The military confirmed that the determined response successfully thwarted the terrorists' attempts to breach the FOB, inflicting casualties on the attackers and frustrating their incursion. Lt. Col. Haruna Sani, the Acting Media Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, confirmed the incident. He stated that while five soldiers and three CJTF members tragically lost their lives, those wounded have been evacuated for medical care and are in stable condition. Sani lauded the fallen personnel for their heroism and commitment to defending the nation.

Regrettably, in the course of the battle, five gallant soldiers paid the supreme price during the intense firefight and close-quarter engagement, while some equipment was also affected by the firefight.

Sani assured the public that troops remain in control of the FOB and continue to dominate the surrounding area, with ongoing operations to consolidate their position. He added that these failed attacks underscore the growing desperation of terrorist elements who are suffering significant losses due to sustained military pressure. Measures are being taken to protect communities, including the deployment of additional troops and combat enablers across the North-East theatre.
